CANADA’S PAST

Fall-Winter 2023-24 Collection

From a landscape where sharp shadows of bare trees are projected on a white scintillating ground under an open blue sky, where the snowstorm air is inhaled through runny noses and where the freezing cold outside weather coexists with the warmth of the interior.

- The FW23-24 collection is an extension of our previous SS23 “Burning Candles” with an alpine DNA and was thought & designed under the influence of the Nordic climate.

For FW23-24, we infused some key elements of the Canadian wardrobe heritage, and more subtle ones related to artisanal techniques that are part of the country’s savoir-faire, roots and legacy. A wardrobe cut into generously comfortable textiles for a recognizable ease, with the intention of preserving tangible history and showcasing core elements of the past century by merging functional outerwear and workwear pieces with elegant winter silhouettes, presented under a multilayering assemblage.

Fringed ties, scarves and skirts featuring illusory and trippy patterns have been delicately hand woven on ancestral looms. They are the outcome of a precious collaboration with the weavers France Therrien & Monique Ratelle, with whom we explored books from past decades and then we altered the patterns with advanced computer softwares to finally attain these sublime creations.

This season’s vestiaire was inspired by early 1900’s winter scene postcards, arrow sash, hand woven throws, sheeps, elderly people, grain sacks, books of Quebec antique furniture, photo archives of Canadian libraries, and more.

Next fall & winter, the Autre Riche client will be dressed in a pair of wide leg jeans with topstiched front creases and a beige thread embroidered back pocket, paired with a frost blue full canvas seersucker blazer, but with a short zipper closure, which shapes our hybridized version of a modern blazer. Light olive & ivory fringed skirt paired with a textured turtleneck adorned of a complex embroidery, scottish wool tweed huntsman check blazer accompanied by a navy wool crewneck sweater with a subtle brilliance, thick merino wool sweater knitted with premium Italian yarns and heavy weight & soft-touch organic cotton t-shirt with meaningful print. Accessorized with hand woven merino wool scarves or cotton & linen fringed ties, an equation between the patterns of classic silk ties and the rusticity of knitted ties.
